The multi standard and code free Classic DVD-103S is an incredible player at an outstanding value. The code free conversion is quick and hassle free. The multi region feature needs to be set only one time and from there it auto senses the region and does the rest of the work for you. For the electronics newbie this player is very easy to use. I put in my region 2 copy of the BBC hit series Only Fools and Horses, and in a few quick steps I was ready to go. I tested the player with DVDs from each other region as well and the player did a beautiful job with each one. When it comes to region free players, I don't know that I'll ever use anything else.

I do my fair share of traveling overseas and this player really worked out well for me because it is dual voltage. It plays both 110v and 220v. The conversion between NTSC and PAL systems is very easy for even the most inexperienced user. Here in the U.S., I can play a PAL disc from Europe on my NTSC TV as if the disc was manufactured right here in the U.S. Most code free DVD players can't perform this function, so this is a great feature.

The video quality of the Classic DVD-103S is second to none. It's right up there with some of the higher end players. Switching between chapters is very fast compared to a lot of the other players out there also. Scrolling within the chapters is incredibly smooth and clear also. I tested the player using Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the landscapes and the colors really came alive. Animated discs such as Shrek and Toy Story really looked great on this player also. There were no problems scanning the discs due to the excellent optical laser pickup mechanics.

The Classic DVD-103S plays multiple formats making it a very versatile player. The Classic had no problems at all playing the CD-R's I had burned. Not only does it play CD-R's burned from my computer, but it also plays CD's, SVCD's, Video CD's and MP3 encoded discs. The player was tested with all of the above formats and the playback was incredibly smooth.

The output selection on the Classic really can't be beat. The player has S-Video, composite and component video output as well as coaxial and digital optical outputs. I used the component video outputs to connect the player to my NEC 42" plasma and the picture is absolutely superb.

The Classic DVD-103S boasts an impressive fully functional 48 key remote. The on-screen set up menu is very easy to navigate for just about anyone. The remote fits comfortably in my hand and is very responsive. The remote can also be used to access some of the other added features to this plasma such as the zoom feature and the ability to change angles.

The overall build of the player is very solid and sturdy. The tray on the disc loader is fast and responsive. The loader is also strong which is also another indicator that this is a solid player. There is a headphone jack on the front along with a few other buttons for quick viewing. The player has a nice black finish and it really blended in with my other components quite nicely.
