The Daewoo DVG-3000N is a true performer in the multi standard and code free DVD player market. The code free conversion is excellent.
This is one of the few players in which the code free conversion is done automatically. I simply put in my region 2 copy of the popular BBC series Yes Minister and it began to play. This is a great advantage for the novice user as there are no codes or additional steps required to change between regions.
This player also performs seamless automatic conversion between NTSC and PAL systems. I can play a PAL disc from Europe on my NTSC TV as if the disc was manufactured right here in the U.S. This was a great plus for me as most codefree DVD players cannot perform this function. 98% of televisions in the U.S. and Canada are NTSC only. The DVG-3000N is also dual voltage for those planning to travel overseas. It plays from 110v to 240v and 50/60 htz. My R/F converter is no longer necessary, which is a big plus as I no longer have to get off of the couch to switch between VCR and DVD viewing. The Daewoo DVG-3000N was able to play my CD-R's recorded from both my computer as well as the CD-R's I had created with my stand alone CD burner. This was great as some of the DVD players I have used had a hard time playing CD-R's. This means that the unit contains superior dual optical laser pickup as only the best DVD players do. The video quality of the Daewoo DVG 3000 is excellent. There are some DVD players that have a hard time playing animated movies or movies with high bit stream sequences. Examples are Shrek, Toy Story 2 and Moulin Rouge. Not so with the DVG-3000N, again pointing to excellent optical laser pickup mechanics! When watching Shrek, the colors were really vibrant and the animation looked great. The pause feature was excellent and delivered a clear pause. The player scrolled both backwards and forwards through the material very smoothly. The remote control for this unit is robust for today's DVD players, with 49 buttons and lots of extra features. Luckily, instructions in the manual are straightforward if not choppy. It contains everything from language selection options to TV display setting adjustments for wide, letterbox, and normal (4:3). The remote is easy to use and the player itself is responsive to the remote from just about anywhere in the room. There are multiple outputs on the back of the DVD player that made connecting it a breeze. There is an S video out, a digital coaxial out for surround sound audio, and a composite video RCA output. I chose the S video output and got great clarity on my 42" Sony 42B1U plasma monitor. The player itself has impressive build quality for this price range. It looks like an expensive unit actually with the solid metal chassis. The metallic silver finish blended very nicely with the rest of my components. The front of the player has a Marantz look and feel to it with a basic menu there for easy access. These options in include the programming 1-10 buttons, two phono jacks and corresponding controls, and other controls for language and OSD options. The disc loader has a smooth motion and is solidly built. Ratings follow between 1 and 5 with 5 being the highest: On a level of 1 - 5: | |
