Model: FujiLink TH588 CodeFree PAL/NTSC DVD Player
Written by: Ed Brantley, DVDBuyingGuide.comWith a price tag of under $300 the Fujilink TH588 is an incredible value. With this model you get all of the features of the name brand players, at a fraction of the price.
The TH588 is loaded with features that contend with most of the higher end players. For all intensive purposes it plays discs from regions 1-6. The Fujilink has a built in NTSC/PAL converter, so it is possible to play PAL discs from overseas on the standard American NTSC TV. This is very important because a lot of the discs from other regions are formatted in PAL, and 99% of TV's here in the US will only play the NTSC format. The Fujilink played my DVD's from other regions with no problems. I am overseas quite a bit and I picked up a region 3 copy of Fight Club and brought it back to the states and it played without any hassle. The player is also dual voltage, so if I decide to travel overseas with it I will not need a power converter.
The transfer to DVD of animated discs like Monsters Inc. and Final Fantasy is very smooth. I had no trouble playing these discs. This player comes with the progressive scan feature included, which is a must have for those with higher end TV's. The player had no problems playing both CDR's and MP3's downloaded from my computer. The Fujilink also plays discs encoded with the new RCE and REA encoding, such as Charlie's Angels, which worked out good because many of the major studios are now encoding discs with this.
The Fujilink comes fully equipped with an impressive 10 bit video D/A converter, that provides excellent image quality. Skipping between chapters was very smooth. I was also able to scroll within a chapter at variable speeds.
The audio on the Fujilink TH588 is great, it comes with a built in 5.1 channel Dolby Digital surround sound decoder and output. It offers both Dolby Digital and DTS surround processing and a 192kHz/24-bit D-A converter. The Fujilink also boasts many other features that are not available in most common players. The karaoke feature can be quite fun during the holidays when entertaining friends and family. You can connect two microphones to it at once for multiple singers. Some other features on the player the zoom function and the quick resume function, which is quite nice. If you enjoy watching movies that have multiple angles, you can switch between angles very easily.
Aesthetically the player is very attractive. It’s ultra slim, black design is a nice looking addition to any home theater set up. The build of the player is very strong and sold, given its size. The loading tray for the DVD’s slides in and out quickly and is very sturdy. The front of the player itself is pretty bare bones, with the buttons you need to get started and that’s about it. Most of the operations are handled via the remote and so this really wasn’t much of a problem. The remote is very easy to use and rests in my hand quite nicely. The on screen set up menu can be easily accessed from the remote and is pretty easy to navigate through.
The Fujilink is loaded with outputs, so you won’t have any problems configuring it into your current home theater set up with optimum potential. The player comes with one of each of the following component video, s-video, digital optical, coaxial, and composite as well as left and right audio outputs. I found that hooking the player up using the component video outputs provided me with the best picture.
