Sony DVPC600d DVD Player For the overall play factor, I'd have to say the Sony DVP-C600D is on even par with every other mid-range Sony player out there. It pretty much does everything a normal Sony does -- except the DVP-C600D does one extra thing, one major extra thing. It plays 5 discs. That's a pretty cool thing, especially if you watch several movies in a row. In order to have a need to watch several movies in a row, you either have to A) have no life, and be a complete disc geek or B) have no life, and be married. Luckily I'm both. Luckier still, many of you are one or both as well.
DVP-C600D featuring:
The DVP-C600D is a big mother jumper, but surprisingly, it's light for its size. As is with most Sony product, the back of the player is clean and clear. It has two lines out (perfect if you want to use it as a CD player on top of being a DVD player), it has component out and a S-Link connector to make it compatible with all your other Sony product. Setting up the DVP-C600D is just as clean and clear. Using an onscreen display (simple text, highlighted fields -- no icons) you can set up every aspect of your watching needs right when you initially set up the player. It's also pretty easy to go back at any time -- plus you can set the languages for the menu itself at French, Spanish or English. Sweet. Playing a disc on the DVP-C600D is very much like using an old fashioned 5 disc CD player. You slide out the tray, load up the player with CDs, DVDs or both and go. Want to switch in mid-play? You can do that too, just open up the player and pull out the disc. This is a really great feature. I found no hitch in it whatsoever. The drawer slides out very clean and pulling out discs is easy. As someone who watches many, many, many discs at a time can attest, I found this to be a perfect player. We're not just talking DVD with this player -- it's all about the CDs as well. The front of the player has a lot of buttons on it. I'd have to say that it looks more like a CD player than a DVD player does. It's not as futuristic as other DVD players are, nor is it as sleek. I like the look, I consider it a bit retro -- and I also feel like Sony wanted to create a player that served as a CD player that also plays DVD. It works, and it works well. It's not just the look of the player, but also its function. The display plays out more like a CDs display, there's a load of numbers and slots and fields and other hoobajoob. You can even write memo texts, allowing you to read what's currently playing. The "extras" even seem to be CD based: shuffle, continuous play and programming are all here for your use -- and although it's DVD application seems questionable, it's all great for CD (and it works for DVDs as well). The remote is big, but fits right into your hand. It's not really that much different than the other Sony remotes - and that's a good thing. Don't mess with something that works. The DVP-C600D works. It works more like a very functional CD player, and for a lot of people who are looking at making their home entertainment systems easier to deal with, it's not a bad idea to go with this player. It has two "outs", so you won't have to stare at your TV screen when you play a CD, it'll jump right into your receiver as a CD player. The simple fact that the DVP-C600D is a 5-disc changer, is also a good thing. You can watch more than one flick without having to get up - and that's what home entertainment is all about.
