The Sampo DVE662 is a great DVD player when it comes to the region free players that are available today. When it comes to changing the regions, it is one of the simplest players to use. There are just three simple steps in changing the regions. Switching between NTSC/PAL is very simple as well. Once again, just three simple steps. These procedures do not need to be done every time, which adds to the convenience and ease of use of the player. This is a great DVD player for the novice user wanting to play DVD's from other regions.

For those with some overseas travels in your future, the player is dual voltage for your convenience. The player is also NTSC and PAL compatible, meaning it will play NTSC discs on a PAL TV and it will also play PAL discs on an NTSC TV. You can take the player with you wherever you want to go.

The video quality as a whole is excellent using this player. I tried many different discs ranging from a region 2 Interview with a Vampire disc, to a region 1 version of Toy Story. The player delivered a crisp, clear picture with every showing. The player skips through chapters quickly and easily. Need to rewind or fast-forward just a few seconds? This player does that and delivers a clear picture at the same time.

The Sampo DVE662 has no problems playing discs in various formats. In addition to DVD's, the player also had no problems playing numerous MP3 discs that I had burned off my computer. The player also plays CD's, Video CD's and SVCD's with excellent clarity.

Another popular feature on this player that makes it stand out is the karaoke capabilities. This feature has provided hours of fun for our family and friends. Whether we are entertaining out of town visitors or letting the kids entertain themselves, it's never a dull moment.

On the back of the player there are a wide array of video outputs to allow for integration into any home theater set up. In addition to Composite and S-Video, there are Component video outputs as well. I chose to hook the player up to my TV using the component video outputs and it delivered a great looking picture.

For the audiophiles out there, the Sampo DVE662 boasts a built in Dolby digital 5.01 decoder. Finally, high performance audio playback at an affordable price.

The remote itself is pretty standard as far as things go. It is not backlit, which is becoming more and more standard, however it is easy to navigate. The remote may be used to access the setup menu, which in itself is very easy to use. The setup menu offers step-by-step video and audio configuration.

The front of the player itself offers a no nonsense control panel with limited functionality. The player itself currently only comes in a silver color. This could cause a problem for those with otherwise black or charcoal components for aesthetic reasons. The size of the player is on par with most standard DVD players. It is a sturdy player with a strong, quick loading tray.
